DEVIATIONS LECTURE SERIES
DAVID ADJAYE
I WAS RECENTLY LUCKY ENOUGH TO ATTEND A GUEST LECTURE WITH ARCHITECT DAVID ADJAYE OBE; ALTHOUGH I WAS FAMILIAR WITH SOME OF HIS WORK IT WAS ENLIGHTENING TO HEAR ABOUT NEW PROJECTS AND SEE THE THOUGHT PROCESSES BEHIND EACH DEVELOPMENT.
AFTER ESTABLISHING HIS PRACTICE ADJAYE ASSOCIATES IN 2000, THE COMPANY HAS RECEIVED WORLDWIDE RECOGNITION THANKS TO MULTIPLE PROJECTS, FROM CIVIC BUILDINGS TO PRIVATE HOUSES TO MASTER PLANNING. ADJAYE ALSO SPENT 11 YEARS, FROM 1999 TO 2010, ACCUMULATING EXTENSIVE RESEARCH ON THE AFRICAN CONTINENT, VISITING EACH COUNTRY IN A HOPE TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE NATURE OF AFRICAN CITIES, IN TERMS OF THEIR HISTORIC REFERENCES AND GEOGRAPHIC PROPERTIES.
ADJAYE STATED THAT DESPITE THE CONTINENT’S CONSIDERABLE PROBLEMS, AFRICA PRESENTS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR ARCHITECTS, DISCUSSING  HOW HIS JOURNEY THROUGH THE CONTINENT HAS INFORMED AND INFLUENCED THE WAY IN WHICH HE APPROACHES HIS WORK.
BELOW IS A SMALL COLLECTION OF MY PERSONAL FAVOURITE projects DISCUSSED WITHIN the LECTURE.
